The MTV Show returns with a BANG!

To be honest, I’ve stopped watching television for a long time now. Not to mention MTV. In this generation of content easily available online, I’ve become a slave to the Internet.

I would tune in only for the occasional guilty pleasure of an episode or two of Jersey Shore or some other show that involves the antics of people doing stupid things. Let’s face it, all of us (ok, maybe just me), have an intrinsic quality to watch people embarrassment themselves on TV.

But now, MTV has given me a new reason to tune in. The MTV Show Season 2 is set to premiere in this weekend and a whole host of change is coming your way. Season 1 was pretty decent and for me, one particular April Fool’s prank that the MTV producers pulled, was for me, the defining moment for Season 1.

Perhaps because it showed a different side of the VJs and make them more relatable to us, the viewers.

And that is what Season 2 promises. Plus, a pair of fresh faced VJs to helm the 30-minute weekly all-you-need-to-know entertainment juice and gossip. Eloquent, vibrant and unabashed, they take over the reins from VJs Rich and Holly, hosts of Season 1’s edition of the show.

VJ Alan Wong, is self-professed movie junkie and you can count on him like 1, 2, 3 (well, his favorite artist is Bruno Mars) to lend much spontaneity to the show. Recently introduced to Asian music like k-pop, he adores 2NE1!

You might be surprised to find that VJ Hanli Hofer is a true-blue Singaporean! A huge music buff, there is no one genre that escapes her ears. A huge supporter of the local band, Obedient Wives Club, and the local music scene in general, she hopes to showcase any amazing music on the show as well.

Season 2 of The MTV Show promises to be a people’s show. With the rise of the Millennial generation, the entire content of the show is decided by YOU! What better way to engage their viewers by integrating something we are so obsessed with –  Social Media. Doing away with a tradition model of presenting TV show, The MTV Show, is made for the Internet generation.

Banking on social media platforms like Instagram, MTV want to engage the viewers and give you what you want. In the words of the VJs, their job now is not to tell the viewers what is popular or what the viewers should listen to BUT to give to the viewers what they like and are into. The power is transferred to the people’s hands.

With new segments like the The People’s Chart, Instagram dedications and requests, and Weekly Web Videos, MTV is giving their viewers what they want. The People’s Chart lets Viewers get to vote for music they like from the past decade to appear on the show (who wouldn’t love a good’ol throwback to Maroon 5’s She Will Be Loved?!)

Having barely sunk their teeth into their new stint as VJs, Alan and Hanli have already attended the recent Future Music Festival and interviewed big names like Armin van Buuren.

Well, if this doesn’t excite you to tune in to catch up on entertainment news big or small, condensed into half an hour on a Saturday morning, I don’t know what will. I’m definitely excited and will be lounging in front of my TV with a cup of coffee, indulging in The MTV Show.

The MTV Show premieres on 20 April 2013 on MTV SEA at 11am.
