SoSingaporean (P.S. I am pissed again.)

I am a Singaporean.

I am proud to be a Singaporean and although there are things that I am not insanely fond of , like its horribly humid weather and its monstrous grip on the media called censorship, I still love my country.

So I am incredibly offended when I found out about the Twitter account called SoSingaporean.

SoSingaporean is supposedly – I am doing guesswork here cause its info wasn’t that helpful (SENSE MY SARCASM) – a Twitter account that displays and tweets about things that are so Singaporean. Events and activities that only we, as Singaporeans, can relate and hence, share among each other. At first, I thought it is a good idea. What a great way to bond Singaporeans. EZ -links cards, HDBs, the lack of chewing gums, the fear of being hanged. These are things that make us what we are. These are the things that make us “uniquely Singaporean”.

However, this is how SoSingaporean does it.

I am disgusted how this Twitter account is portraying Singaporeans. Imagine if you are a teenager from Sweden and you have heard little or nothing about this odd little country called Singapore. You stumbled across this Twitter account and from its tweets, you can only assume that Singaporeans are arrogant, crude, lame and honestly, downright stupid.

Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against Singlish but the amount SoSingaporean uses is enough to convert the entire country of Malaysia into Singaporeans.

I know I may sound like a bitter overly sensitive elitist fool but I assure you, I am not. I think that laughing at one’s self is the best way to grow as a human being but first of all, your jokes has to be funny.

Oh btw, SoSingaporean has over 36 thousand followers.

HOW CAN THAT BE?

I am dumbfounded and baffled by the amount of support SoSingaporean has. It is fine if one person views Singapore this way but for 36 thousand people to agree with him is ridiculous.

Honestly, if we don’t even respect ourselves, how the hell are you going to expect the rest of the world to do so?

Editor’s Note: This is purely the writer’s view, as is all of our posts. But before you sneaky peeps dig out all our ‘secrets’ (not that we have any), yes, we do follow SoSingaporean on Twitter. We’re not taking any sides, we’re letting the article speak for itself ;)
